In Tanzania and across many rural regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, over 75% of the population lives more than 20 kilometers from the nearest health facility, causing millions to delay or forego essential medical care.
Each year, preventable and treatable diseases such as malaria, HIV, diabetes, and hypertension contribute to over 6 million avoidable deaths across the continent, largely due to lack of timely diagnosis and follow-up care.
In Tanzania alone, delays in diagnosing common conditions cost the economy an estimated \$500 million annually in lost productivity and increased healthcare burden.
Existing solutions—brick-and-mortar clinics and hospitals—are often too far, overcrowded, under-resourced, or completely absent in remote communities. Mobile outreach programs, where available, are sporadic and typically lack diagnostic capacity or consistent supply chains.
As a result, rural families face high transportation costs, long wait times, and often receive late-stage diagnoses when treatment is more complex and expensive. This glaring gap leaves millions at risk of disease progression or death simply because they cannot access basic diagnostic and primary care services when they need them.
